A Bruckmann 50 in GIBY’s care now has longer lines and more storage space thanks to the installation of a new swim platform extension. The “part” – provided as an option by Bruckmann Yachts – is the second of its kind the GIBY team has installed on a B-50.
“I think it looks cleaner than the bracketed swim platform, and it adds storage space,” says Trevor Davis, GIBY’s Operations Manager. “From a performance standpoint, with the longer waterline, it should increase hull efficiency too.”
After Shawn, on GIBY’s yard operations team, ground the matting surfaces, and removed the bottom paint and gelcoat from these areas, he laminated the seam to a smooth finish. This process made for a strong bond and reduced the amount of fairing that was required. Once the extension was glued to the transom, the platform lid was fitted and glued with epoxy to create a water-tight compartment. After the final grinding, sanding, and fairing, the new extension was painted with Awlgrip to match the hull.
This boat was recently purchased on the west coast. The new owners brought the boat to GIBY to tackle their extensive “refit” punch list and to make the boat their own.
