New Volvo Penta D 13-800 6-cylinder engines were selected to replace a pair of old Mercedes Benz 750s aboard an Azimut 54. The repower called for the fabrication of custom metal beds in addition to new mounts. Once the engines were dropped in, the old ZF processors were replaced with a Clear Commander control system. This repower called for all new wiring, reworking the exhaust fittings, new drive shaft couplings, and repositioning several thru-hull fittings. Soundown was also added for noise reduction. These new engines ensure improved efficiency and eliminate the old “smoke show” upon start up.
