Some days at the boat yard are a bit like Christmas morning. The snow piles up outside, while we open boxes of electronics…and begin to assemble brand new toys…in the comfort of our warm shops. Currently, our team is enjoying this very kind of excitiment, as we receive parts and begin to fit out a new 2014 AB Oceanus Sport RIB on behalf of a new GIBY client.
Last fall, after acquiring the boat and getting to know it by way of a few late-season boating adventures, the owner chose GIBY for winter storage and additional commissioning services.
With the help of a GIBY service manager, a winter worklist was created, laying out a plan for how to customize the boat to the owner’s specifications, with delivery in time for summer.
The job, now in process, calls for installing: an aluminum T-top; a compass; a complete electronics package (including a plotter, radar, sounder, VHF, AIS); a Sirius/Bluetooth-capable stereo system; several 12-volt DC/USB receptacles; and Lenco trimtabs. It also calls for equipping the boat with: an EPIRB; a six-person liferaft; a ski/tow bar; new seats and deck boxes; and all new canvas console and seat covers. Finally, this spring, before the bottom is prepped to accept anti-fouling paint for the first time, the GIBY crew will locate and strike an official waterline.
We’re looking forward to seeing this well-equipped, fun boat skipping across Casco Bay this summer!
