We kept a few floats on our southernmost pier (“D” Dock) in the water for about an extra month longer than usual this hauling season. We’d planned to accommodate a couple of later arrivals and one final departure: the new Pilot Boat for Eastport, Maine. With our especially temperate holiday season, the Rowe family even got to enjoy some boating on Christmas Day! Now that we’re through with needing a place to tie up boats (until April, that is), we took advantage of the sunny weather last week and completed hauling the remaining finger piers and floats/ramps.
At this point, it’s hard to predict whether there will be enough ice this year for a repeat “ice out” competition – last year was truly historic for cold temperatures, snowfall and thick ice here on the cove. Whatever the rest of winter brings, we’ve officially begun the countdown to the spring launching season…a short 10 weeks away!
