Vessel: Alerion 33
Name: Gallup
Owner: Peter D.
Hailing Port: Chebeague Island, Maine
The owners of this lovely Alerion 33 enjoy day sails with their grandchildren. To extend the use of the boat, and make sailing fun and easy for all ages, they decided to employ the Great Island team to make several improvements, especially those that would improve sail handling. In addition, they expressed a desire for more headroom in the cockpit. This necessitated raising the boom by relocating the gooseneck on the carbon fiber mast. To support the addition of the new in-boom furler, the rigging team also designed and fabricated a custom furling lead and chafe guard. With so much packed onto a small carbon spar, the team was keen to provide extra stability for the mast-mounted radar – their solution, a specially molded carbon sleeve fitted to the mast face.
