Five large windows on a Lyman-Morse Hunt 42 are being replaced this winter. The original 1/4″ glass is being swapped with 1/4″ double pane glass. Because the owners typically spend winters living aboard in Charleston, SC, they hope the thicker glass will offer better insulation – keeping the heat in when it’s chilly and out when it’s sunny. Mike, the lead carpenter on the job, credits the Vikings for inspiring his unique clamping system for securing the windows. Now that they’re safely in place, Mike is hand-planing the original trim and custom-fitting each frame to the new, more deeply-seated sections of glass.
